Great game

This is the closest Ive felt to the fun of a true d&d game Ive played on iOS. Really unique and fun. Love the art, great style, the pop-ups that explain what youre looking at makes the 2D tile map feel completely engrossing, youre actually using youre imagination in ways most games dont. Only complaints: a liiiiiittle too hard, but I like that, dont know if I even want them to change it. AND I wish I could listen to my own podcasts/music on my phone while playing this, but its not possible currently.

Major bug

Increasing my prior rating of one star as the devs were quick to address the crash I was experiencing during character creation that led me to start over after having finished a play through. Im still giving it a low rating though as Im stuck in a game crashing loop again. This time Im stuck in combat with an enemy in the sewers area and it crashes every time its the mobs turn. I cant make any progress and am again faced with either deleting my characters and starting over or staying stuck in a permanent loop of crashing 2 seconds after I load my game.

A flashback to a simpler time....

So many times while playing this game I felt a wave of nostalgia. I felt like it was 1985 again, I was hanging out with Billy and Michael in our kitchen late at night playing a new scifi RPG we had just bought that day. The dice roll, the faux game rules designed to look like old 1980s rules, the top down drawn maps, it all just clicked, and mostly in a good way. The maps could have been a bit more distinct and colorful and although the character and enemy artwork was ok, it could have been better. The water color vagueness of the enemies and characters made it hard at times to really understand what I was looking at. The game is short and contained to just about three locations, mostly small. The game mechanics are interesting but I didnt care too much to explore the other characters and only used a few to finish the short story. If the art were more distinct and the story more epic and expansive, and the characters more different, it could be a five star game. But now, its just ok. Really loved the nostalgia though.... Sigh...

Not having fun

I enjoyed the game itself, very much. But, when your character dies, it appears thats the ballgame. It does let you choose another character and continue, but not much point when the new character is of the original skill level. I had a level-13 character die after hours of playing. I chose a new character (which came in at level 6) and it died within 5 minutes. There is no Save capability I have found. I am simply not going to replay those 6-10 hours Ive already played. It was fun up until then, but Ive deleted the app and moved on now. I know some will cheer a hardcore modee like this, but for me this just isnt fun.

Rad, retro & reading-heavy

This is a rich, deep game with lovely hand-drawn art and a fantastically written story. The game involves turn-based combat and while there is some randomness due to the dice there is also plenty of strategy. Knowing when to use an item, a special skill, or when it is time to flee, are all key. You do have to enjoy reading to get the most out of this game. Throughout there is text describing what youre seeing and doing. I dont think you can fully experience the game unless you take the time to read these text pieces. Thats not a problem though because they are very well written and fun. Fans of the Sorcery series should really love this. While not a game book like Sorcery both appeal to the bookworm and gamer in me. The music that is here is cool I just wish it was used more often. I also wish the text font was a little bit larger. When there is black text against a red background it can be a little difficult to read. I hope more modules are forthcoming as well. Theres one so far and it seems pretty lengthy. Ive sunk a couple of hours into it and I get the feeling Ive barely scratched the surface. Update: finished the module and loved every minute. The only problem: I really really want to play more modules! Heres hoping theres a content update soonish.

Game of the year

This one will take you back to the days of those dog eared D&d modules. Great gameplay that really sparks the imagination. I find myself replaying this to see what I missed the first time around and to max out my characters in anticipation of future adventures.

Old school

Excellent game. Brings me back to when I was a kid, in the 80s, when you would spend a great deal of money on board games that had story telling, strategy, exploration, and yet leaving it to the imagination to do the rest.

Simply amazing

This is the first review Ive ever written, so Ill keep it brief. This game is amazing, and it represents everything that mobile gaming CAN be. It is deep, engrossing, fun and you can play for 10 minutes or 10 hours. Speaking of replayability, you will die a lot and learn and restart (Im not a great gamer - die lots - and I dont find the penalty bad). And thats part of the fun. Early GOTY candidate! Oh, and if you see a stranger, run!

Get this game

A great story in a creepy sci fi universe with great rogue like elements, best rpg Ive played in awhile.

iOS 9 app thinning please!

My iPad mini needs more room. Please!

Can not equip my pirate special

Like the game, but after the mid level elevator transport I can no longer equip the special ( either the original or the one I found). When I try it immediately kicks me out of the game altogether.

Loving game, till I got stuck

I love this game. It is all I have been playing for days. That changed tonight, I went into a cave, when I came out the other side, I was stuck behind a door I didnt have a key for. Game will not let me go back, cant open the door, so I am stuck... I dont want to start a new game as I fought to get my character up to level 9...

Great game, also stuck in cave

In 3 years on iOS, Ive only paid for a handful of games. Galactic Keep is easily in my top 3 for value, theme, style and more. But as another reviewer posted, Im stuck in a single space btwn a cave entrance and a door requiring a red key, which I lack. Any kind of support for this glitch is appreciated. Shelving GC unless/until this is addressed. Otherwise, no complaints.

Brilliant, with tiny flaw

I too am currently stuck, after leaving a cave behind a red door I cannot open. And, I cannot go back into the cave. Frustrating.

Best Game in Awhile

One of my favorite iOS games

Fun and unique.

Clearly a project that was designed with incredible attention to detail. The mechanics are sound, the luck of the dice rolls makes for some tense moments, and the story is unique and compelling. I would have liked it to have a bit more direction for the story as I often felt like I was just wandering around.

Scratches the RPG Itch perfectively

I will come back to this and update after I play more of it, as I am only 2 hours in, but I cannot express enough how much I am loving it. If you get this game please post a review so we can help the developers and they in turn can create more modules. The level of detail is amazing. It feels like you went to your hobby store and bought a module for your favorite rpg. When you look at the map, you can see it has been folded, and there is a slight yellow color on the fold showing age. Thats the level of detail the guys put in. Enjoy! Update: I am 10 hours in now, and the game gets better and better. The strategy for fighting gets better and more complicated, making it enjoyable. Exploration is so fun. Step on every square for the best experience. You never no if some text will pop up. If I could give this a six star I would. enjoy Update: once you get special items that makes the enemy miss their turn, the combat gets much too easy. These items are too powerful, causing misses up to 80% of the time. I think it should top out around 30% so the last 1/2 of the game isnt too easy.

Typos

Please fix the typos in the game!

One of the best on iOS.

This game stands far above most everything Ive played on mobile in terms of quality and care that was poured into it. The art alone makes paying four bucks for this feel like a crime. Take the presence and tone of Wasteland, the themes of Master of Orion and the aesthetic and mechanics of Descent (the board game, not the nausea-inducing PC shooter) and youre in the ballpark of Galactic Keep. If you werent sweating by the time you finished reading that sentence you are probably awful. If you dont buy this game women will know and literally never touch you again. Stop reading and just buy it.

Decent dungeon crawl, poor rpg

The general layout of the game seems to imply a classic science fiction RPG. However, the mechanic do not support this idea. The mechanics are almost entirely for combat, with skill check being few and far between. I must say that the developers did make combat interesting with flavor text and differing effects, but the rest of the mechanics fall short. Character creation takes a backseat to character selection. You pick a pre-determined race/class combination and then roll stats for it, not even being able to change the characters name. Ultimately, the most saddening exclusion is in-depth star travel. A small, RPG themed trading and exploration mechanic would be nice, but as of now, the only "sci-fi" activity present is dungeon exploration, which to the games credit, it does well. I cannot help but feel that the gameplay could improve if more sandbox mechanics were added, perhaps in the vein of solo Traveller bartering. As of now, the game feels like a standard RPG with some old school paint slapped on. Luckily, it seems as though the developers are continually working on the game, with the addition of better mapping features. There is still hope for star faring on your mobile devices yet, spacers.
